Air on a G string - Basic Membership

Introduction

Johann Sebastian Bach is a composer that probably needs no introduction. Most people on Earth have probably heard his music at some point. What is even more amazing is that we still have the pleasure of playing and listening to so much of his wonderful timeless music even though he passed away more than 250 years ago.Air on a G string is probably one his most loved pieces taken from a larger work Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068.

Tips

The piece itself has a gentle yet enchanting melody:

  • Transposed down one tone from D major to C major. Technically the piece isn't overly demanding although there is a
  • Watch for the difficult five fret stretch in bar two
  • Try a cross-string trill at the end if you wish to develop that technique in context
